Frequently Asked Questions
You Ask. We Answer.
-
Do I need to have any experience to go parasailing? We’ll get you fitted with a life jacket and harness before you sit at the back of the boat. Gradually, you’ll be lifted into the air by our winch system and parachute. You’ll soar up to 300 feet for around 10 minutes, enjoying breathtaking views. As you descend, you can choose to be dipped in the water or stay completely dry before landing gently back on the boat.
-
Do I need previous experience to go parasailing? Not at all! If you can sit comfortably, you’re good to go. Our team will guide you through the entire process, ensuring your safety and comfort while you enjoy the thrill of flying above Kelowna. You’ll be securely harnessed and briefed on what to expect.
-
Are there any age or weight limits?Yes, children as young as 4 and adults up to 100 years old can participate. Those under 19 need a parent or guardian to sign their waiver. The minimum combined weight is 150 lbs (65 kg), and the maximum is approximately 450-550 lbs (200-250 kg). Weight requirements may vary daily based on wind conditions and the Captain’s discretion.
-
Do you take off from or land in the water? No, you take off and land directly on the boat. Once you're harnessed and seated with your companions, the hydraulic winch system will gently lift and lower you.
-
Do I need to know how to swim? Not swimming is required. Everyone must wear a life jacket, and you can choose to stay dry if you prefer not to get wet.
-
Will I touch the water? It’s entirely up to you! Let the Captain or crew know if you prefer to stay dry or enjoy a water dip during your ride.
-
How many people can parasail at once?We can accommodate one, two, or three people at a time. Restrictions based on weight and wind conditions apply, and the final decision is made by the Captain.
-
Can I come just to watch?Yes, we allow viewers on the boat, but seats are not reserved or guaranteed. If space is available before departure, you can join for $30. If you decide to parasail while on the boat, the $30 will be applied towards the cost of the parasail.
-
How high will we fly? You’ll reach heights between 200 and 300 feet! Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Okanagan, Kelowna, the Bennett Bridge, and parts of West Kelowna.
-
Is parasailing scary if I’m afraid of heights?Parasailing is a smooth and gentle experience, unlike roller coasters or free-fall rides. Many people with a fear of heights find it surprisingly enjoyable.
-
What should I wear? For those who want to get wet, bathing suits are ideal. For those staying dry, shorts, T-shirts, and sandals work well. In cooler weather, bring layers.
-
How long does the entire experience last? Each parasailing flight lasts about 10 minutes. Including the boat ride, you should expect to be out on the water for approximately an hour from departure to return. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled flight.
-
Should I book in advance?Yes, advance bookings are recommended due to high demand and limited space. Walk-up guests are welcome, but you may have to wait for availability. We also accept phone bookings with a credit card.
-
How far ahead should I book?We suggest booking 2-5 days in advance, depending on the season. For groups of 10 or more, please call 2-3 weeks ahead. Book early in the morning to avoid missing out, and try not to plan for the last day of your vacation in case of weather issues.
-
When is the best time to plan parasailing during my vacation? We recommend scheduling parasailing early in your vacation. Weather can be unpredictable, and planning it for the end of your trip might lead to missed opportunities if conditions aren’t favourable.
-
Where should we park and what time should we arrive? Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. Paid parking is available along Water St and nearby areas. Alternative parking options include the Library Parkade on Ellis St and the Prospera Place parking lot. Note that street parking is free on Sundays.
-
Can I bring my phone up with me?You can, but it’s at your own risk. We offer photo and video packages so you can focus on enjoying the experience without worrying about dropping your phone.
-
Can I bring my belongings on the boat? You can bring a small bag and valuables on board if you wish. Larger items like strollers can be stored at our kiosk.
-
Can I bring my dog on board?Unfortunately, we are unable to allow any dogs on board, including support animals, due to safety concerns. The close proximity of parasail equipment lines and ropes to the seating area poses a risk to both your pet and our equipment. However, our kiosk staff are usually happy to assist by looking after your dog while you enjoy your parasailing adventure.
-
What if the weather is bad at the time of my reservation?Call us if you’re unsure about the weather. We don’t parasail in lightning or strong winds but do operate in overcast or light rain conditions. We’ll inform you if we cancel due to poor weather.
-
What are your cancellation and refund policies? You can cancel up to 48 hours before your booking for a full refund. Cancellations or no-shows after that point may forfeit the booking amount. Bookings made within 48 hours are non-refundable. Weather-related cancellations will be rescheduled or refunded.
-
Do you offer group specials?Yes, for groups of 10 or more, please call us at 250-868-4838 for the latest specials and offers.
-
Are you affiliated with Okanagan Parasail?Okanagan Parasail is our sister company and we are operated by the same owner, from the same location. The Kelowna Parasail brand has been around since the 1960s and we are thrilled to bring its nostalgic origins back to life in Kelowna! You can book with either company and you'll be getting the same great prices and service.
